X-Ray Diffraction (XRD) is conducted on inorganic compounds to determine the chemical species present as compounds. In contrast to XRF or ICP methods that provide elemental analysis, XRD provides compound analysis by detecting X-rays that reflect off of the crystalline structures in compounds.
